The general purpose of our society, are those
     of practically all similar Scottish Societies,
     namely
     to promote the heritage of our forebears and of
     Scotland and to develop personal friendships
     among our kin as well as study the history and
     learn the culture of Scotland.
    
         The society endeavors to have a presence at
     the maximum number of highland games by
     sponsoring in whole or in part, a clan tent. The
     clan tent is a place for members to refresh our
     friendships, make new friends and to answer
     questions on Scottish heritage for those just
     becoming aware of their Scottish roots. Clan
     Douglas sponsors tents at highland games coast
     to coast. 
        
         The primary unifying effort is our News Letter
     Dubh Ghlase (Gaelic for Black Water) published
     four times a year. The Society has the annual
     business meeting at Grandfather Mountain
     (on even numbered) years on the occasion of the
     "Grandfather Mountain Highland Games" held
     each July. On odd numbered years the annual
     business meeting is held at other suitable
     Highland Games sites and times if approved by
     the Board of Directors.
