Meet Our Southern California Regent!

Today we continue with our interviews of CDSNA officers and regents. Mr. Tim Tyler, our wonderful Southern California regent, shares about his association with CDSNA.

CDSNA: What is your current occupation?
TT: Family Electrical Business Certified Electrician

CDSNA: How did you first hear of the Clan Douglas Society of North America?
TT: In 2001 I found out I was Scottish, and a Douglas, because my Grandmother’s Father was Joseph Edgar Page Dickey. I paid for a CDSNA three year membership and now I am a Life Member.

CDSNA: Can you remember your first Scottish festival or Highland Games?
TT: In 1999 I took Mary, my wife, to Costa Mesa Scottish Highland Games. Like most people I only checked my last name. Tyler is Celtic Cornish Southern England and Welsh. People need to also check their mother/grandmother's maiden names. I fell in love with the festivals and all the history on the first day I went! I felt like I was home.

CDSNA: What is your favorite aspect of this Scottish community?
TT: Seeing CDSNA Members having fun in the Clan Douglas tent. I would like to see Clan Douglas SoCal grow in Membership. I get great pleasure in teaching others about Clan Douglas.

CDSNA: What made you decide to become the Southern California Regent?
TT: In 2003 there was no Clan Douglas Tent at the Costa Mesa Games. I became Regent at the 2003 Seaside Games. I am working to keep that from ever happening again.

CDSNA: How far have you traced your Scottish roots?
TT: To the 1400’s. You can see this at www.clandickey.com. I am also the Dickey Commissioner for CDSNA.

CDSNA: Have you ever been to Scotland? If not, do you have plans to ever make a trip there?
TT: Mary & I were in Scotland for The Gathering 2009 with Mark & Cora Peterson. Had a blast! My wife and I were also Knighted into the Scottish Knight Templar’s in Balgonie Castle in Scotland two days after The Gathering.

CDSNA: Is there anything you would like to add to CDSNA or have a personal comment on your experience?
TT: I would like to start b
uilding local groups like Clan Douglas SoCal and Clan Douglas South West Region. I would also like to finish coloring books for our youth to keep our youth involved in the clan. Finally, I would like to build a youth group like the Squires of St. Andrews.

Thank you Mr. Tim Tyler for your time and important contributions to CDSNA!
